THE EMERGING TECHNOLOGY OF 3DTV

3D TV is an emerging technology that allows consumers to enjoy three-dimensional movies, television programs and video games in their homes. Several companies have developed viable 3D technology for the home theater environment, but the reality of seeing 3D TV in the average household is probably years away. That's primarily because the technology requires the purchase of new television equipment, including a 3D-ready TV and a 3D-capable Blu-ray player. The good news: The Blu-ray Disc Association has approved a standard for encoding 3D on Blu-ray disc. The bad news: You will need a new 3D capable Blu-ray Disc player and HDTV to take advantage of it.

On the other hand, the new standard does not render your current Blu-ray Disc player or HDTV obsolete as all 3D Blu-ray Discs will be playable on current Blu-ray Disc players and viewed on current HDTVs in the standard 2D format we are all used to. It is also important to note that many DLP projection televisions already in use are 3D capable and it is expected that owners of the Sony PS3 Slim will be to able to install a firmware upgrade to gain Blu-ray 3D playback capability. For additional details on how the new 3D Blu-ray standard will affect consumers, check out the report from Video Business. For more technical details on the new 3D Blu-ray Disc standard, also check out the reports from Blu-ray.com and Business Wire.nergy efficiency is becoming more of a concern these days as government policies increasingly restrict our access to energy generating resources. However, no matter how you feel about the issue, having a television that provides good performance and lowers your electric bill is a good thing. The Sony KDL40VE5 40-inch LCD television is one of the new generation of energy efficient TVs that accomplishes this without the need for mandated government regulations. This 40-inch set features a modest 90 watt average (140 watt peak) power draw (which beats current Energy Star guidelines), full-off mode that removes typical standby power consumption, an automatic room light sensor, and a motion sensor that turns the TV off if you leave the room.Despite its energy-saving functions, the KDL40VE5 still delivers an excellent picture with its full (1920x1080) 1080p native pixel resolution as well as 120hz screen refresh rate. On the other hand, it is advised that for a good audio experience, an external audio system be used. This set is definitely worth consideration.Continuing a fine tradition of large, high resolution prototype displays, Samsung Electronics picked today to show off its latest innovation, in the form of the world's first 70-inch, "Ultra Definition" 240Hz 3DTV. That UD tag indicates a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels that puts your current HDTV and even larger projection 1080p 3D units to shame. The big deal in this version is the super high speed silicon Samsung has developed to drive all those pixels fast enough to support smooth motion and 3D viewing -- glasses still required, of course.I'll only be happy when the potential, optimum picture for a display exceeds the point where the human eye can discern any difference.
We must overkill to assure perfection.I'm thinking along the lines of OLED/OLET, 7680x4320 Ultra-HD with 16-bit per-channel deep colour, added ycm colour channels, much higher framerates for non-film/drama 2D and 3D content and slightly higher for some 3D film/drama content.I'm not saying all content has to be hyper-realistic, crystal clear, like real life; some content may lose its value in those settings, but the potential for such a thing must be available to allow absolute creative freedom to content makers. Nintendo then comes out in the market 1st with their new console HiiHii, finally supports 1080p and decides that it's enough for everyone. The HiiHii will sell the most for the 1st few years with people buying them and playing them for a few months and then leaving it to gather dust in the store.Microsoft Xbox 720(or is it 1440 now?) will support only 1440p while PS4 supports 2160p. Then there will be a name retcon with 1440p being called UD while 2160p is Full UD.When both the Xbox 720 and PS4 is released, Microsoft fanboys will scream Full UD is not needed and it looks the same even when screen comparisons tells them otherwise.PS4 will receive plenty of flak for being too expensive and hard to develop while selling decently but still not as good as the HiiHii or Xbox720.Apple then decides to join the foray with the iPwn, their gaming console. Which supports augmented reality and runs on iOS X. It manages to get the last spot in the console race but gets 90% of media attention misleading people into thinking that it's actually a very popular product.Nintendo then comes out in the market 1st with their new console HiiHii, finally supports 1080p and decides that it's enough for everyone.
