I recently ran into some problems with my Dell Inspiron 1564 laptop. I downloaded a crack/keygen to use on a program (which now looking back I should'nt have done) that I wanted to try out. I ran the crack before installing the program and I got a dialog box that reported and error. Sorry, I don't have what the message said. From there I started to run into problems. I got the first BSOD and I freaked out! I was able to get a glimpse of the reported error..."SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION"

It restarted like this maybe about 4 times before I thought about booting into safe mode. Once I was there I immediately did a system restore, but alas it did nothing same BSOD. And I noticed it didn't delete the crack folder with the file so I deleted that. Restarted and the same thing. So I went into safe mode again and a dialog box came up saying that "windows is having problems try these solutions"...so I picked one. I choose the event viewer thinking that I might find something related to the virus and I noticed that there was a critical error involving the kernel. There were at least 4 message saying something about "KERNEL-POWER".
Saw it and I didn't know what to do so I restarted my laptop and thats when it happened the computer loaded to a screen that showed the chipset manufactuer and started loading, but it stopped and said "Operating system not found" I was blown away! Everytime I turn on my laptop now it goes to that screen. To make this short, I've Googled many phrases and browsed many forums for fixes and still can't find anything.I was stumped at this so I did more digging and came across a page that explained how to get to a windows screen to try and fix the problem. I downloaded to my usb stick the windows system recovery bootloader. I plugged it in and booted off the usb stick to the system recovery options and when i got there, no OS was displayed in the dialog box. This has me frazzled because in the steps on the website it showed the system will automatically find the OS.

Right now, I've been trying to locate the appropriate INF file to load but I can't seem to pinpoint the right one as this is the file it needs to load the drivers. I've tried disk.inf and a few others that look like they might be related to the hard drive and SATA controller but no luck. I even tried to use the Dell sytem restore to no avail. CTRL+F11 doesn't work, F8 doesn't work...can you see it's no use.
Now I think this has to do with the virus or windows. The virus has done something to the file(s) needed for the system to recognize the hard drive and everything before is the virus masking the fact that the data files still exist on the hard drive but that was the purpose of the virus, I'm guessing. Or windows has removed the instructions from the boot file to protect the hardware.
Im at a total lost. I called Dell and they tell me that the OS doesn't exist on the hard drive any more, but that's impossible as it would take some time for it to happen. I'm going to request Windows 7 CD from them just in case I can't find an answer to my question and just re-install windows. So my question(s) is.Which INF file do I need? (There is a whole bunch on the usb stick.)
What INF file should I be looking for?
And does the fact that these INF files which are not from my laptop matter in restoring some functionality to my laptop, like the windows system recovery bootloader should have been made from my computer because it had the files needed?
Are the INF files generic? or are they specific to the type of Windows operating system you have?
I couldn't find drivers from my hard drive's manufacturer's website (Seagate) so I guess Microsoft provides a general one for all models to use with windows. So that is my quarrel and I hope anyone browsing can offer a viable solution cuz I really don't want to reinstall Windows, I'm already dealing with the fact that all my data files might be lost (I'm trying to remember everything that was on it).
