Days after putting iPhone 4 for sale, Home Shop 18, a leading shopping channel, has been asked to withdraw the hottest selling product from its shelf.It may be noted here that the online store had been selling iPhone 4 since almost one month before Apple officially launched iPhone 4 in India last Friday.An Apple source confirmed that Home Shop 18 had started selling iPhone 4 without 'proper authorization'. The online store was even using iPhone 4 image to promote sales.
“We noticed the un-authorized sale some time back and asked them to pull-down the product immediately,” an Apple spokesperson told CIOL.It may be noted here that several online stores put on sale Apple products by procuring the products from overseas markets, especially 'grey markets'.Authorized Apple Service Centers only service products which carry Global Service Warranty. Products sold in grey market are not serviceable, the spokesman said adding that customers should be cautious while making purchases.Comments Shiv Putcha, Principal Analyst, Emerging Markets, Ovum Telecoms: “Customers who bought iPhone 4 through grey markets may not be able to make full use iPhone 4 features.”In addition, one may not be able to make full use of iTune services or other services offered for official customers, said Apple. Apple also has capabilities, of tracking iPhone 4s that are not running on official operator networks and also de-activate services.
Apple premium resellers in India include iMagine, Reliance Digital, Croma, STAPLES, eZone among others.
As cellular providers – Aircel & Airtel already confirmed the launch of iPhone in India very soon, we are still predicting about the launch date which could match with these words.
